The Tree Picture
Oil on Canvas
16x20
This is the first thing I ever painted. It is the beginner picture in the studio where I paint. Everyone there tends to give the beginner picture a hard rap, but honestly, I really enjoyed it. This was my first experience transforming a blank canvas into something. Thank you, David, for showing me the way.

I painted this for one of my dearest friends, Laurel. She has had the privilege, on more than one occasion, of vacationing with her family in the British Virgin Islands. Every time she returns home, she shows me pictures and speaks with such a sense of excitement and joy about the times spent there full of love and fun and markedly absent of life's everyday cares and concerns. This was one of her favorite places on the islands. I can't send her back to Josiah's Bay, so I,
in my own way, brought it to her.

This piece is dear to my heart. It is the town in Italy where my grandfather was born and lived as a young child
until his family immigrated to America via Ellis Island in New York.
I still have relatives living in Viticuso
but have not yet had the chance to meet them.
I painted this for my parents, and it currently hangs in their home.

This is the result of a fun, one night class where we painted en plein air by book light in the dark. It was a lesson on the study of light and shadow, but I walked away with so much more. When I brought it home, my 3 year old boy took one look and said, "That's my moon."
